Female role models at Hughes Paddison

We are extremely lucky to have a host of inspirational women working at Hughes Paddison. Regardless of job title, we value every single employee; their style, personality, and individual strengths they bring to the team.

Embracing and encouraging each person’s unique talents and personality, is what really sets Hughes Paddison apart from other firms.

To continue the celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, here we celebrate the individual talents and amazing experience that Jane Brothwood and Rachel Stewart bring to the team.

Jane Brothwood, Managing Director and Family Solicitor

Jane Brothwood is a truly inspirational woman. As Managing Director at Hughes Paddison Solicitors in Cheltenham, she is a constant reminder to her 'family', as she fondly calls her employees, of what is possible with endless compassion, dedication, and hard work.

Hughes Paddison now have one of the largest family law departments in Gloucestershire. Jane has helped to build this fantastically talented team, by mentoring, and supporting her fellow family law specialists. Jane always has time to discuss the finer details of an intricate legal matter, or to offer emotional support when it is needed. This means her team of specialist family lawyers are equipped with the expertise to navigate all types of relationship difficulties.

As a practising Family Law Solicitor with over 30 years’ experience, she has helped hundreds of families through the extremely difficult process of divorce. Issues surrounding relationships, divorce, separation, and family are usually highly emotionally charged, and this is when Jane really comes into her own. Even during tough emotional disagreements and disputes, her clear, pragmatic approach helps to keep the situation focused and constructive.

Jane is an accredited member of Resolution, specialising in separation and financial issues within divorce and is also a qualified mediator. Her collaborative, caring approach continues to inspire fellow solicitors and partners alike.

Rachel Stewart, Equity Director and Head of the Litigation Department

Rachel Stewart is an Equity Director and Head of Litigation at Hughes Paddison.

With a broad commercial/civil litigation practice, and 25 years’ experience under her belt, Rachel’s no-nonsense, hands-on experience really sets her apart.

Rachel has also been a part-time judge since 2013, working in the High Court District Registry in Birmingham. This provides an invaluable insight into litigation from the other side of the courtroom, which she utilises for her clients’ benefit.

Rachel regularly advises in contract disputes; problems arising between those in business together; professional negligence claims; intellectual property disputes; trusts and inheritance issues; injunctions, and much more.

Whatever the contentious issue, Rachel’s determined and persuasive representation ensures the best possible outcome for her clients, in out-of-court settlements and in court hearings. Her skill lies in understanding the way in which parties fight and resolve disputes, and combining this with a client-focussed, bespoke approach in each case.
