Role: Senior Corporate and Commercial Solicitor
We are looking for a senior solicitor to join our fast growing corporate and commercial team in Cheltenham. The candidate will be joining as the fifth member of the team and will be expected to both support the head of team, Jon Rathbone, and be able to manage their own transactions and matters with supervision where appropriate. Jon started the team in February 2017 and is now supported by a solicitor with 3 years PQE, a trainee and a secretary.
In its first two years, the team has worked on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions ranging from several multi-million pound sales and acquisitions to the sale of local retail businesses. About three quarters of the work is currently corporate. The commercial work includes IT contracts, a range of general commercial contracts and GDPR.
Jon Rathbone started life as a corporate lawyer at Veale Wasbrough and Osborne Clarke in Bristol before taking some time out of his legal career to perfect the design and take to market a bestselling baby product. He has also spent a year as the in-house Group Legal Counsel at Mulberry Group plc. Jon’s breadth of experience, both as a lawyer and entrepreneur, has helped the team to grow with clients quick to appreciate their commercial, proactive and pragmatic approach.
The ideal candidate will have *4 to 8 years post qualification experience, solid academics, and experience of working within a reputable firm. At least a part of that experience needs to be in corporate. Some commercial experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Personable and comfortable with business development, you must be excited by the opportunity to help the corporate team to continue to expand and ultimately build up your own client base.
