Rachel Stewart has been appointed a Deputy District Judge by the Lord Chancellor, and has been assigned to the Midland Circuit to deal with civil and family proceedings.
In accepting her appointment Rachel joins her fellow Director, Mark Paddison, who has been a Deputy District Judge for approximately 13 years.
Rachel will take up her new role alongside her responsibilities as Head of Litigation at Hughes Paddison. As a solicitor Rachel already deals with a wide range of civil and commercial disputes. She believes that working as a Deputy District Judge will enhance her practice at Hughes Paddison, as it will provide invaluable experience of life on the other side of the court room.
Managing Director of Hughes Paddison, Jane Brothwood, commented on Rachel’s appointment: “We are delighted for Rachel, and very proud of her achievement. We are certain she will make an excellent contribution to the judiciary, as she has the sense of fairness and legal ability required for such a role.”
