Hughes Paddison Training Contract Programme
Hughes Paddison offers a varied training programme which will provide a trainee with a strong foundation upon which to develop their legal career. Hughes Paddison provides services to individuals and businesses. Based in Cheltenham, we look after clients all over the South West, UK and internationally.
We have a wealth of knowledge across a number of legal specialisms and, in recent years, the firm has seen growth particularly in our commercial offering to clients. Not only does the diverse nature of the legal services we provide to clients ensure that client's needs are met, it also provides our lawyers with the opportunity to engage in a training programme, enabling trainees a solid platform from which they can develop a career.
Hughes Paddison invests in people and it is our aim, when recruiting trainees that those trainees develop their careers through a matrix working towards their career goals for the future.
The applications are closed for 2021-22 but will reopen for recruitment for the year for 2023. We will be inviting applicants to submit their applications from March 2022 and closing on 31st July 2022.
First interviews for successful candidates for 2023 will be invited for first interview late September/early October 2022..

During a training contract with Hughes Paddison, you will have the opportunity to experience 3 – 4 different service areas from the following list:
• Commercial Property
• Corporate & Commercial
• Private Client
• Residential Property
We have designed our training contract to ensure that trainees spend sufficient time in each seat. This gives our trainees an idea as to whether the seat is an area of law that they enjoy, can flourish in and develop their career. We look towards tailoring the last three to six months of a 24-month training contract to enable the trainee to return to their seat of choice or the seat that they excelled in during their training contract in order to meet their interests and our business needs at the time.
We operate a dual appraisal system per seat, giving trainees feedback mid-seat and at the end of each seat with advice and guidance as to what to work on and how to hone their skills.
During your training contract you will work alongside directors and senior lawyers. We firmly believe this gives the trainees exposure to good quality work and supervision. The firm likes to give responsibility to those trainees that show promise. We ensure that trainees experience contentious and non-contentious work and follow SRA guidelines and practices. We are also excited to explore the opportunities the SQE will provide.
Any successful candidates may also be considered for a paralegal or administrative role, commencing 6 months in advance of their training contract start date, where business needs permit. Our trainees who have had the opportunity to do this felt that it gave them a better training experience overall.
