The case of General Motors UK Ltd v The Manchester Ship Canal Company Ltd concerned a licence agreement which allowed General Motors to discharge surface water into the canal for a modest annual fee of £50.
Jon is a director and joined Hughes Paddison in 2017 to help grow the Company and Commercial Department.
Jon has over 14 years’ experience specialising initially in mergers and acquisitions and more recently advising on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions, ranging from setting up a new model for investing in dental practices to advising on complex high value procurements of high tech equipment.
Jon also designed the Pourty Easy-to-Pour Potty, one of the UK’s bestselling child’s potties, and has established a successful business selling children’s products to the like of John Lewis, Amazon and Tesco.
Jon has gained most of his experience working in private practice for national firms, but has also spent a year as the Group Legal Counsel for Mulberry Group plc. His experience setting up his own business and working in house for Mulberry has given Jon a great insight into the challenges which small and larger businesses face of controlling their costs while taking appropriate measures to mitigate risk as their businesses grows. Jon takes a very pragmatic approach and constantly questions the extent of any risk and the financial implications for the client of the proposed arrangements.
