Rachel is an Owner/Director, and Head of the Litigation Department. She is also a Specialist Deputy District Judge of the Business and Property Courts in Birmingham, a part-time judicial role that she combines with her busy day-to-day practice acting for clients of Hughes Paddison. Rachel was appointed a judge in January 2013. The role has provided her and her clients with an invaluable insight into litigation from the other side of the judicial bench, ensuring clients’ cases are put before the courts in the most advantageous way possible.
Rachel specialises in commercial and civil litigation, and has over 22 years’ experience under her belt. Her clients are based all over the UK. She typically advises in cases in the High Court in London and in Belfast, but also in various District Registries and County Courts.
Her practice area is broad, and her clients consist of businesses of all sizes, and individuals. She regularly advises in professional negligence claims (including those against solicitors, accountants/auditors, architects, and financial advisers), breach of contract claims, and disputes concerning shareholder/management structures. She advises on issues concerning building/construction, trusts and foundations (UK and overseas), contentious probate, intellectual property remedies, miss-selling of financial products, and more.
In breach of contract claims she is particularly experienced in the commercial heating and plumbing industry, as for many years she has acted for an international boiler manufacturer, as well as smaller UK based companies in that industry.
Rachel works alongside Property Litigation specialist, Andrew Turner, and together they are assisted by a team of fee earners and support staff.
