Promoting gender equality in the legal profession

How Hughes Paddison are helping to #BreaktheBias

As a firm, we are proud of our people, their achievements, and the exceptional level of professional service that every one of them delivers for our clients.

Today, on International Women’s Day, when the theme is #Breakthebias we want to share our passion for supporting and empowering women who work in the legal profession.

Hughes Paddison Team helping to #BreaktheBias

Lead by Jane Brothwood, Managing Director and a Solicitor in our Family Team, with over 20 years PQE, she alongside the other female Directors in the firm, provide daily inspiration to other women in the Hughes Paddison team.

Here are a few statistics:

  • 69% of our qualified legal staff are women

  • 71% of Directors are women

  • 40% of our Equity Directors are also women

In a profession where the national figures show almost a third (31%) of all male solicitors are partners*, we are certainly challenging the ‘national trend’ but we also recognise there is still some way to go before we can claim proportional representation.

We hope, over time we will see even more of our recently qualified solicitors staying on at the firm and becoming Directors and Equity Partners. We hope to do this by providing a working environment where opportunities are actively encouraged.

Hughes Paddison are exceptionally proud of our entire team, regardless of gender, ethnicity, background or age. We are lucky to have such a great team of caring, passionate and dedicated, people who all want the best for our clients.

Here’s to celebrating International Women’s Day with our whole team and doing our bit by raising awareness of gender bias.
